Dear all,
I said I wouldn't spend *too* much time in the garden this summer but I have had a rush of enthusiasm of late due to recent bout of fabulous weather and long balmy evenings.
One of my all time favorite flowers is the rhodedendron; synonymous with the UK spring and fabulous blocks of bright colour.
While we were in Home Hardware yesterday, I spotted an entire shelf of rhododendron's, who despite looking a little parched and past it were on sale from $70 down to $5!Darren understands fully my obsession with flowers but was quite happy to nudge me over to the $5 section and within 2 minutes I was standing at the cashier with a huge 3 feet tall shrub.
Darren has also fixed up a watering system in our garden using a sprinkler hose; a long hose with various punctuations along the length that squirt out water. I had previously planted some geraniums, marigolds and herbs ( on sale in Rona) and had done a spot of weeding, so the border is looking pretty snappy! The rhododendron is now in and looking lovely with a good does of miracle grow and water. Hopefully she will survive the winter and we will have a pink explosion in our garden.
And in other news:
1. Happy Birthday Canada! It's Canada day and on a gorgeous evening, we walked down to Millennium Park to watch the fireworks. Last year we watched them from Rupert's which was also a fabulous view but it was nice to be in the mix with the crowd and only a 5 minute walk away.
Neighbour John followed us down and we found a great spot over looking the grain elevator's. John had already cased out a great observation area after a fully comprehensive reconnaissance mission with his dog early in the day. Despite the mosquitos, it was a great evening and the fireworks were pretty spectacular.
Happy Canada Day!
Beautiful Rhododendrons! One of my favorites also. I can't seem to get them to do well where I am at in Ohio though. I had beautiful ones in Pennsylvania. Thanks for the mention of Miracle Gro too :)
