Year Two Day Thirty Six - The Great Canadian Roadshow

Dear all,

Today, I got invited to spend the afternoon with gorgeous Karla and her amazing Gran as we took a trip to the Great Canadian Roadshow - Canada's alternative to the famous Antiques Road show! The road show was in town, taking temporary residence in Cranberry Resort. We arrived to a fairly empty room ( a scene far removed from the UK TV show which boasts hour long queues for folks eagerly waiting to seek out that hallowed valuation).
We were quickly introduced to a coin expert  - a very smart and articulate young lady who sat us down and ask what we wanted to have appraised.
Karla and her Gran had both bought bags full of old coins dating back from the 1800s, a musical jug and a couple of jewelry items. We were eager to find out what she was going to say...
Karla poured her bags of coins onto the table [it was a large pile] - the lady glanced over them briefly, gently gliding one finger over them as if looking for one last cashew in a tub a mixed nuts. After a ten second sift, she exclaimed that Karla didn't really have anything unusual and even the coins that dated back into the 1800's 'weren't from the right year...'. After we probed further ( rather disgruntled about her immediate assesment), she explained that she received 100s of coins daily [ie was very experienced] and clearly knew what years/ coins to look out for. She was also instantly connected to 10s of collectors and fello historians and antique dealers online and was frequently tapping away on her lap top as she spoke to us.
One thing that 'did' catch her eye was a chain that was housing on of the coins, mounted in a small golden bracket. She picked it up, looked it it through her magic eye glass and whisked it away to show her boss.. 'hmmmm' we thought. On return, she asked Karla whether she wanted to sell the chain, 'Of course' said Karla.
Turns out, the chain was real gold and Karla walked out with a $200 cheque! It was a lovely afternoon and fascinating seeing the experts at work. They really know their stuff!
