Dear all
Having mum and dad here is a great excuse to try out some new spots in the local area. Today, after wonderful pre-dinner drinks with Connie and Gerry, we set off across the Blue Mountains towards Thornbury and 'The Mill Cafe'.
I have driven past the Mill so many times but have yet to give it a try. Darren also joined us, also having never visited the restaurant.
We had a fabulous dinner. The evening was balmy so we chose to take a table on the veranda looking out over Thornbury and the gigantic dam. A point of interest noted by D was the 'Salmon channel' adjacent to the dam constructed in order that the salmon were still able to swim upstream beside the dam so the structure would not disrupt their mating season.

The menu is clear, concise and well-balanced, with the items displayed in oder of whether they are 'small', 'medium' or 'large'. I went for a 'medium' plate of mussels, Dad and Darren both went for the 'medium' Steak and Feta salad and Mum went for the 'medium' flat bread covered in goats cheese and contained an explosive delight of herbs and seasoning. The term 'medium' is clearly all relative when in Canada when our gigantic plates arrived. It was all totally delicious and I would highly recommend the Mill, in winter ( the inside is beautifully decorated with comfy booths and cushions a plenty) or in summer ( the veranda.. sigh).
