Day One Hundred and Eighty Four - Minden

Dear all,

Today we had to get back in the truck and head to the local town of Minden for supplies. Minden is a stone throw away at around 30 minutes drive and the closest thing to a shopping metropolis( i.e. they have a Tim Hortons)

We had a number of objectives including swinging by the local government office to collect the building permit and to hire a couple of high-end drills used to penetrate rock.

Minden is a nice little town that is home to many patriotic folk who tend to the area with love and care. As you can see, the fire risk is currently low (good to keep on top of the fire-chart) and I was very impressed by the plethora of flower arrangements seen throughout the town.

There were also some interesting statues of historical interest at the government offices but despite their grandeur, my interest seriously perked up when we got to Home Hardware to the 'rentals section'!

I was very excited by all the power tools and was very keen to pick up a weed whacker and chain saw. Darren displayed excellent trouble-shooting skills by managing to curtail my fever and leading me away from the [very expensive] hard ware towards the clothing section. I bought some $6 gloves instead. I love them.
Darren and his Dad picked up a drill and several large bags of nails that they bought by the pound rather by piece {all this is very new to me!}. We left Minden full of Tim Horton's coffee and Tim Bits and ready to start work!

And in other news:

1. My new favorite snack: Jalapeno Poppers! Served super hot they comprise of a jalapeno smothered in cream cheese, covered in bread crumbs and baked/ deep fried. They are hot on the menu at the firehouse and I love them!

2. Mutter shook her head in despair when she saw my $2 flip flops so sent over a pair of super-comfy 'Animal' flip flops to see me through the winter. Modelled below! http://shop.animal.co.uk/

3. We all entered the Lion's Club raffle to win this!! Check out the tracks on this baby!
