Day One Hundred and Eighty Two - Darren's Truck

Dear all,

Its officially Fall and I have taken a week off to travel to the Firehouse with Darren, his Dad and Mary Lou to commence the exciting renovations to Darren's cottage.

This was particularly exciting for me as for the first time, I got to ride in Darren's truck.

Darren and his Dad had hooked up their trucks with a trailer full of beautiful cedar purchased from a local Mennonite farmer in Owen Sound and D's working boat. We set off armed with Apple crumble and warm clothes and [after stopping off for coffee and keys before we had even travelled for 5 minutes]  we were on the highway heading for Algonquin.

It was a great trip and we eventually got to the firehouse where we spent the evening in our wee cabin drinking tea and attempting to crack the complex mind of the Toronto Star and its daily crossword....

This was another first for me as I was yet to purchase a newspaper from one of the vending boxes you find on every corner here in Canada. I managed to work it out after popping in my loose change and cranking open the hatch of the vending box. I am slowly but surely becoming Canadian!

We nearly managed to crack the puzzle but not without a fair few furrowed brows; the most quizzical being the clue, 'Yeech' which apparently means 'ugh' and 'Gros' which translates in crossword lingo to 'Icky'. Hmmmmmmm.

Nevertheless, its very exciting to be up on the lake and ready to crack on with work tomorrow!
