Day One Hundred and Eighty Five - Drilling Through Rock

Dear all,

Today we started work on the dock! With huge excitement, we took the boat over to the island to start the greatly anticipated work on the dock. Darren and his Dad were in their element and I couldn't wait to get started as their eager assistant.

More lumbar went ashore and Darren and his surveyed the potential dock site ready for the construction to take place.

The dock was going to sit in a bed of rocks just on the lakeside and once Darren and Bob had measured it all up with seamless accuracy, we could start drilling [through!] the rock in order to cement in pins that would be the foundations of the dock.
The boys were a little worried that because Home Hardware didn't have a 'diamond' bit we would struggle with drilling into the granite however the man in the shop was right, we did and below is a video of the first cut!

Darren and his Dad were very noble and let me have a go with the drill. It was a quite heavy and the vibrations were pretty substantial for little me, but I did it!

We drilled four holes at the four corners of the site and filled them with cement before slotting in the 'saddle' which would eventually house the corner beam. It looked brilliant!

After a long but deeply satisfying day, we set sail across the lake, through the channel and back to lake Kushog and to the Firehouse. A fabulous dinner of chicken wings for me ( and a good portion of Darren's pasta!)
