Day One Hundred and Seventy One - Bulk Barn

Dear all,

I am back in the kitchen and one of the problems I am finding as a new and aspiring cook is the collating of all ingredients required at any given time without having to do three runs to the supermarket and organic food market in search of an obscure variety of spice.

The wonderful Kerry gave me the best advice after having gone through the same trauma: Go to Bulk Barn!

What can I say apart from: Bulk Barn is awesome! Staying true to its name sake, Bulk Barn stocks virtually everything in the world, all stored in large bins and served in 'bulk'. It is especially good for when you are buying product such as spices as there is a strong element of portion control which means you don't need to spend $100 in order to make up a vindaloo sauce. http://www.bulkbarn.ca/en-ca/index.html

They have EVERYTHING! It is slightly overwhelming as the range of produce is vast, but the staff seem very well versed in what they have and where to find it so [for example] when I asked where to find 'cream of wheat powder' [ I know.. don't ask], they scuttled off and within 1 minute I was standing by the 'cream of wheat powder' bin. Hurray!
I ended up with 16 spices and the sum total was $11.40! Now, thats a bargain!
And in other news:
1. We didn't survive unscathed from ol' hurricane Earl. He shot through Collingwood this evening and in around 5 minutes had whipped one of our window screens clear off meaning that the full force of the flash flood ended up on the stairwell carpet. Gaaaaaaa Earl!
2. We had another blissful evening with Vince and Kerry. After a fabulous feast of steak and crab I was clearly so content that I dozed off on the table ( much to the amusement of Darren and co - see attached photos... I found these on waking)
