Year Two Day Sixty Six - L'Assommoir

Dear all,

I had to devote a whole post to this fabulous place as we spent (a considerable amount of) time in their fabulous bar after stumbling across it on our first night. Stumbling is not an exaggeration as it was situated less than one block from L'Hotel!
Our favorite drinking spot in Montreal is officially, L'Assommoir! Everything from their Margarita to their Absinthe *cough splutter* - (The Boys wanted to try it...I daren't go near the stuff after a dreadful experience in the Czech Republic when I was very young... *gulp*) was amazing. Our first ( and favorite) bar tender was Louis - a charming French Man who clearly enjoyed our company (well, we did manage to charge through a large portion of the menu). It then became 'our bar', of course, because it was. And it was wonderful!
The bar is very suave with great decor and a fabulous array of liquor. They 'specialize' in Absinthe *shudder* and the bar is regaled with the Absinthe-drinking paraphernalia avec fountain. http://www.assommoir.ca/and/fr/index.php

They also had a great selection of bottled beers - Darren and Vince sampled a local brew, 'Trois Pistoles' which was a dark velvety brew that quite simply, knocked your socks off.. We should have known really - check out the label!

This fabulous spot became our 'go to' when lost or wanting to fill an hour or two. We loved it! Hurray for L'Assommoir!
