Dear all,
Ahhhhh cottage life... I love it.. but there are some interesting intricacies that need to be address and can sometimes be a little daunting.. one of them comes in a very specific furry form..
Ahh, yes, we have mice and lots of them! But we were not undeterred - we picked up an assortment of pest control devices and after a night of very 'animated' activity around the kitchen area, we armed ourselves with the traps and set to work. The mice had been busy while we had been away and had even managed to penetrate a Zip Lock bag and guage open a fresh packet of Nacho Cheese Doritos.. As they seemed to like the cheesy crisps, we decided to use a crumb or two in the traps in an attempt to lure them in.
Darren had purchased a rather slick looking set of traps from Home Depot - he engaged the chip and with two traps activated, we went to bed.. I suggested a light hearted competition to help us sleep and we pledged how long it would take for the trap to strike - the loser would buy the other a trinket in Robinson's Dorset http://www.robinsonsgeneralstore.ca/ in the morning ( an awesome prize). I went for 45 minutes, Darren undercut me at 30.
But after only TEN MINUTES, the first trap fired ( and after a couple of awkward moments of a sinister 'thrashing' sound coming from the kitchen), here was silence. One down and D was the clear winner when BAM, trap two went off - 15 minutes into the competition!! gaaaaaaa!
Here are the first two mice ( in a cup - it's hard to find a mouse shape coffin on an island). Darren laid them to rest in the forest... and then reset the traps. You've guessed it... it was a busy night with the Doritos but hopefully now we are mouse free!
