Dear all,
We are having BEAUTIFUL weather and Darren and I set out this morning to spend several days up at the cottage.
We arrived late the previous evening, slept over night and were therefore able to start work first thing ( which of course, when in the Wilderness, is sunrise AKA 6AM).
After a good three hours of hard cleaning, brush burning and nail removal, I decided it was high time for a swim so enlisted Darren as my 'spotter' and set out across the lake.
It was a stunning morning and the water was a calm as a mill pond and as clear as I have seen it this year. The lake was busier than normal ( one boat sighting every 30 minutes or so) due to a wedding being held on the island hosted by our neighbors. Darren was a fabulous coach chugging along behind me in the boat spurring me on. I managed to reach the Island in about 20 minutes ( I am thinking it is approximately an 800m swim to reach the adjacent shoreline), I jumped on the rock, Darren flashed a pic from the boat and I dived back in again for the return journey.
I had done a couple of big swims prior to this one, but thought it best to ask D to travel with me ( the lake is deep, I don't want to distress any fellow lake folk [people are very caring in Canada] and one never knows what lurks beneath in those deep blue waters [sea serpents/ bull sharks/ box jellyfish/ Nessie etc etc].
So, I made it, all in one piece and am slightly sore today as a result ( The muscles used in swimming are quite different from those used when jogging). Here is a little video of my epic swim for your pleasure! Next time I will try make it down to the channel ( ** not the English Channel)
