Dear all,
We are back at the cottage (hurray) and were able to stay for a few days so Darren decided to invest in some fishing-goods after having signed up ( heavily encouraged by myself, Jay and Anita) to The Firehouse Fishing Contest (http://www.firehouseresort.com/).
We found ourselves in Minden and the nice lady at the information office pointed us in the direction of The Minden Bait and Tackle Store. A fairly bizarre experience would ensue - the store 'manager' was possibly the most grumpy man in the world.. but with that title comes quite an endearing quality - for some reason both Darren and I found ourselves desperately trying to make conversation with him whilst inadvertently trying to win his approval..
Who knows if it worked... he advised Darren to purchase a couple of quite quirky looking items that he mumbled would 'definitely' get the pike biting.... all we could do was be grateful that he even sold us the fishing license ( he really resented this particular task) and hope his advise was valid and accurate and not a total hoop-la.
SO, the following morning, we rose early, pumped out the coffee and set out onto the lake!
Darren dove into his box of tricks and got himself ready for the big fish.
I took the helm and chugged around the lake into the more shallower areas north of the island where we hoped the large fish would be hiding...
And that's me [upside down - Blogger doesn't havea rotate button.. gaaaa]
Darren popped the line in the water and we waited.... and waited... and waited.....
Ah.... we waited... I bought me book.. but due to being in charge of the wheel was not able to flick through the pages simultaneously... so I watched and waited...
Then Darren gave me a {very short} go on the line, but by then we realized that there were no Pike, Bull sharks, Bass or anything biting this morning...
Here I am still waiting....
And again... still waiting...
Actually, this photo shoot was only within a 20 second time frame... I just held the rod while Darren took the pics. I then returned to my position as Skipper ( I love this role). But sadly, no joy out in the depths of the lake today and no closer to winning the coveted 'biggest fish' prize at The Firehouse... Darren will persevere thou, we will get that fish!
