Year Two Day Sixty Four - Rue St. Paul, Montreal

Dear all,

We are in heaven! The boys snuck out for a day at the Casino so Kerry and I hit downtown, Old town Montreal for some gallery-hopping, cafe-exploring and all things Francais.

Rue St Paul is so fabulous, it has it's own entry on Wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rue_Saint-Paul_(Montreal). Based in the Old Town of Montreal, it weaves through historic buildings and is home to a multitude of cafes, restaurants, shops and galleries.
We stumble across markets and sampled Ice Cider, a delecacy, similar to Ice Wine, that is widely produced in Quebec where it was first cultivated (Here is a brief article about the emergence of Ice Cider on the World Stage http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/food-and-wine/article157615.ece)

We walked down to the Old Port where we stumbled across more markets, bars and the Science Centre - This place was buzzing!
We noted a bizarre occurrence on the river (The Saint. Lawrence River which connects the Great lakes with The Atlantic) - the rapids were alarmingly fast as they cascaded through, past the Port. A bit of a change from Georgian Bay... and amazing to observe in action, especially the boats flying along with the tide.

After all this excitement, we decided to find a local watering hole for a quick demi. We decided on the patio of 'Papillion' on Rue St Paul and enjoyed a lovely local beer, 'Blanche de Chambly' http://www.unibroue.com/en/beers/blanche_de_chambly/product
Restaurant Papillon
85 Rue Saint Paul Est, Montréal, QC(514) 866-0440
As you can see, we settled in rather well to Papillon and managed to avoid a rampant flash-flood that washed off the Rue while we sat on our lovely patio.
It was all utterly fabulous and a wonderful day - we couldn't wait to meet up with the boys again and run riot in the evening. Montreal is fabulous!

And in other news:
1. We didn't make it to this restaurant but it has the coolest music accompaniment for any website I have ever seen ( and provided the soundtrack for our holiday)! http://www.chezlepicier.com/en/index2.html
