Day One Hundred and Twenty Six - Harvesting Honey

Dear all,

Despite the very busy running of the inn, we do try and find time sometimes to pop up and see the bees who are minding their own business working away pollinating our floral and fauna and planning world domination.Stefan and Linda had taken some honey comb out our active hive the day previously and today it was our task to harvest honey from the comb in order that we would be able to use it.

At the inn we shy away from conventional methods, so once in the kitchen, Stefen sarted to break up the comb and remove any poor bees ( RIP) trapped in the honey, Drone brood ( male eggs) larvae of any sort ( often tastes weird), propolis ( the glue that fixes the comb to the hive) and any erroneous items.

We then crushed the comb into a sieve and literally let the honey drain through over the course of a couple of hours.

The smell was fantastic and the honey was golden and rich in colour. We managed to fend off any inquisitive flies and other disreputable insects from the bounty.

It was a total success and all credit to Stefen who patiently monitored the honey whilst I was buzzing around like a worker bee trying to get everything done before Linda and Paul got home from St. Catherines. Hopefully it is the start of a bumper honey crop this year!

And in other news:
1. Darren cooked up a 'Western' as part of a late night snack. He cracked five eggs (to all Brits reading - that is a 'light' snack in Canada) and got them cooking slowly in a pan. I then chucked in some onion, peppers, souvalaki meat and feta and let that bubble away.

Newly cooked bacon was placed inside and then the eggs concoction was flipped and sealed for a couple of minutes.

Served on toast with ketchup. YUM.
2. If you see any movie this summer, GO AND SEE INCEPTION. It is INCREDIBLE! Movie making at its best.
