As some may know, I have dabbled [to a varying degree] in theatre over the years. (The footnote below explains why I am currently cringing as I hear echos of one my most embarassing quotes ever). Anyhow, the stars were aligned this evening in theatre world. Wonderful Anna had very generously given me two tickets to the opening night of the 'Love List' at Theatre Collingwood as she was away spending time with her gorgeous family. I immediately recruited Karla (absolutely my number one companion for a night at the theatre) and we met a fraction before 8 on a balmy evening in C-Wood.
Steven Thomas, the director of the Theatre greeted us on entering the theatre and we ended up four rows from the front ( always a joy to have fabulous comps).
I have gotta say, the play was bloomin fantastic! The best thing I have seen for a good while and Karla and I ( and the rest of the audience which included, and do forgive me for saying this, a considerable percentage that were significantly more advanced in age than us) laughed, out loud, for the entire duration. It was brilliant!
Collingwood is most certainly moving up in the world producing work such as this. A brilliantly written adult comedy about a morabund civil servant; devoid of romance, being set up with a 'dating service' on his 50th birthday by his best friend; in order to try and find a suitable mate. The results were hilarious. I love it!
Everyone in Collingwood, go see this play! http://www.theatrecollingwood.com/home.aspx
Footnote 1:
Union Bar, Sheffield University.
Libby flutters over to Tom [Mackensie and dear friend] and cries out 'I Laarrve the Theatre!!!' very loudly. These misguided words were uttered around 15 minutes after the curtain call of a random university production that was probably very average. Unfortunately Luke ( see Day Thirty Nine) overheard and has never, ever, ever let me forget it.
