I am currently working on a mammoth 'sit specific installation' for Darren's company so thought it high time to post some updates on the blog! Here is the wonderful wooden base about to be drilled in using a high power tool ( I was even allowed to use it!).
After the hole had been drilled into the centre of the base, I inserted a long pole which would later serve as the stabilising force of the piece.
I then used the 'Japanese' Saw ( which cuts on the 'inward' movement). I needed to cut off a section of the pole to the correct height for the 'head'.
With the [very important] help from John and Niall, we drilled a hole into the pole ( oo it rhymes) that would hold one of the main pieces up write.
We then repeated this and also secured the two main pieces to the bottom of the box using another bolt.
And after a while of to-ing and fro-ing... we managed to get the sculpture assembled!!! Her she is!
And here are John and Niall helping me get her hoisted one a movable dolly for ease in the finishing pahse *she is heavy*.
One final show for you all... my poor abstract sculpture is in the fume room overnight, awaiting her final buff and polishing in the morning (i.e. shellac and wire wool... to be continued.... ).
And in other news:
1. I just can't get enough.. art class in the evening with the WONDERFUL Michelle. http://goughdesign.ca/thebayschoolofart/
2. Karen's sculpture is magnificent!!!! She was even let lose on the chain saw *I would NOT be allowed to do this*
And here is lovely Karen in action!
3. Hear no evil [Karen], speak no evil [me] and cover oneself in Styrofoam [Heather]. The three amigos! xX
