Day Two Hundred and Thirty Six - Logging

Dear all,

The blue skies you see in the pictures are not a miracle of PhotoShop; we are experiencing an Indian Summer with a week of 15 oC temperatures and welcome respite from the early frost.
We took this opportunity to haul in a huge pile of logs that we would then need to 're-log' in order to use them in the fire places throughout the inn.
Logging 2000 logs is enough to make even the most enthusiastic axe-girl extremely nervous but Paul came to the rescue in the shape of his Tractor and hydraulic 'splitter'. Suddenly my day became very exciting!

Once the engine was running, we placed the log on the edge of the splitter and cranked the valve.

As demonstrated in the video below, I got the hang of it pretty quickly!
After the splitting came the stacking but we had got through around half the pile in a couple of hours and will try get through more again tomorrow.
Here is a very forlorn looking puppy who was left in my care after being found chasing deer up on the Escarpment.
