Day Two Hundred and Thirty Five - Knechtel's, Port Dover

Dear all,

As the winter months loom ever closer, Darren was keen to get his boat out of the water from up at the cottage before the ice hits and so today, after D had [single-handedly] retrieved the boat from Carnarvan, he picked me up en route and with boat in tow, off we went to Simcoe!

Darren's Dad and Mary-Lou live in Simcoe and I was very excited to go and visit. It's a significant yet beautiful drive through Guelph and Cambridge and then on through Ginseng Country down to Lake Eerie. It was wonderful to finally get down there after hearing so much about it.

We popped in to see Bob and before we knew it, he had swept us up and whisked us off for a fabulous dinner in the famous local restaurant, Knechtels, just down the road in Port Dover http://www.lunchspark.com/knechtel-foods-ltd,port-dover,on,ca
Knechtel's has been on the lakeside in Port Dover for years and years. Bob talked about the old dance hall and world renowned Big Bands that used to frequent the spot in days gone by
The walls are adorned with fabulous murals; all scenes from the ares including a beautiful mermaid (often seen in Lake Erie).
Knechtel's is known for its fabulous fish and chips, primarily their freshly fished Pickerel...
...and Perch..
I went for the 'Perch Dinner' which included salad bar, fries, coleslaw and 4 [huge] filets of fish. It was FANTASTIC! Darren went for the combo and I managed to sneak in half a filet of Pickerel for desert.

It was a fabulous dinner and we all got home full to the brim and I got to spend some lovely time with Mary Lou whilst the boys were outside doing manly things with wood and boats.

It was so wonderful to see Bob and Mary Lou in their gorgeous home and hopefully get down to see them again very soon!
