Dear all,
Today was an ADVENTURE! After a brilliant night out at the village with Vince and Kerry, we all woke bright an early ready to set sail upon the seven seas! It couldn't have been a more beautiful day, the weather was staggeringly beautiful. Once we had amassed the essentials: Ice, pineapple, sun cream, tube, camera, papers and bikinis and swept away the spiders, we let the worries of the world disappear as D started the engine of the valiant 'Sea Ray' and we set sail for Owen Sound.
The Blue Mountains from the water:
It was quite simply, one of the best days ever. The weather was fabulous and D was a amazing Captain, maneuvering the boat through the rocky shoals, changing tides and stopping now and again for a quick swim in the turquoise water.
It was fascinating seeing the shoreline from the water, especially getting a glimpse at the luxary homes, rugged coast and even motoring past acres and acres of 'private property' akin to the vistas seen in Jurrasic Park, purchased by the government in order to provide a vast training ground for the military.
We stopped off in Meaford for a spot of lunch and then took the long journey around the point to Owen Sound. As with every boating trip, we had the obligatory weather change and spent 15 minutes bashing across the bay while D hold his own at the helm. Kerry and I certainly had quite a work out holding on and Vince suffering a minor blow involving slamming his bottom on the front deck. Nothing a cold beer and a spot of tiger balm on the shore couldn't fix though.
Everything went smoothly until a minor hiccup on gliding 'in to the marina' we shuddered and the engine stopped.. The problem was undiagnosed, so we paddled into our dock (30metres rather than what could have been something a LOT more) and as if by magic, it turns out they had a boat mechanic on site, so the boat was to be looked at in the morning. A great result!
The quote of the day came from Vince: 'Never Leave the Boat'. Never a truer word spoken.
Kerry has some fabulous photos too, so more to come!
