Day Three Hundred and Forty Eight - The Flying Chestnut

Dear all,

Today was all about 'The Best Brunch on Record! Darren, Anna, Dale and I made a special trip to 'The Flying Chestnut' after Anna had received a tip off from a colleague which had sparked some serious interest.

We fortunately turned up on a Sunday (the only day they serve brunch from 11 - 3) with luck firmly on our side, as we hadn't even thought about making a reservation and turns out many [many] other people had decided to come for Brunch too. The lovely waitress offered us a place at the bar and that was that, we were in!

The restaurant is beautifully designed, rustic and quirky. Both Anna and I spotted the fabulous lighting immediately and everyone was impressed with the majestic wooden bar and open kitchen; allowing us to watch the magic unveiling from stove to plate.

The menu was hand written and had only five dishes listed; but my goodness, even the way that the food was described had us pondering over our options for a good 10 minutes. Eventually, Darren and I tossed a coin ( no joke) and decided to share the 'Benny' and the 'BLT'.

Words can't really describe the enormity, excellence and extreme taste sensation that we experienced with this breakfast... Here is some pictorial evidence:

1. Anna's dish of the day: The French Toast. ** Anna exclaimed on the first bite 'It's a cake!'. The Panama Jack Bananas were a huge hit

2. Dale's scrambled eggs. Served with jalapeno corn bread, spicy sausage and potatoes. He ate it all! ** If Dale eats it all, let it be known: that food is good!

3. D and I both shared, The Salmon Benny. Holy Moly that Hollandaise and combination of fresh salmon was out of this world.

4. ... and The BLT. This sandwich was possibly the best I have ever eaten; home smoked bacon, Havarti cheese, potato bread, all the trimmings.. it was absolutely incredible!

What a meal! The best I have had for a very long time and I urge everyone to give it a try ( but make sure you make a reservation!). I have just joined Restaurantica.com and placed a review; I am on a mission to spread the word of the Flying Chestnut!
