Day Three Hundred and Fifty - Spring Gardening

Dear all,

What a day! I thought I would take advantage of the incredible weather and hit the garden like a small, blond tornado. I was on a major Spring Cleanup!

First stop, was Green Tree Greenhouses on Highway 26, somewhere that I have always wanted to drop in to.. I promised Darren I wouldn't buy 'too much' greenery in his absence, but I was on a mission to 'spruce' things up and plants are often perfect for the job.

The garden gallery is small, quaint but well stocked. An English lady greeted me (very encouraging, the Brits have a strong penchant for gardening) but I was drawn immediately to the shrub section where I picked up two mini box hedges as they were on special offer.

I took a minor detour en route to the cashier into one of the Greenhouses. My already great mood was enhanced exponentially as I wandered down the aisles and inhaled the gorgeous floral scent.

It's a great spot and perfect for the odd quirky purchase for your garden as it also houses an emporium of random yet fairly high end garden goods in the main building.

Our new garden needed A LOT of work. It is a fair size and surrounded by evergreens so the entire lawn was covered in a blanket of pine, cedar and post-winter debris.

I raked, cleared and weeded for many hours and managed to fill 23 bags at the last count. This doesn't include the driveway which I finally got to at dusk... ** my gardening-specific OCD is clearly setting in.

I didn't take any 'before' shots sadly but here are a selection of photos of garden 'post clean up'. I am really pleased [full of virtue] [and covered in leaves] and excited to show Darren when he returns.

The nice lady who lives downstairs was EXTREMELY interested in what I was up to and came out on various observational visits throughout the day. I think she was a little concerned that she might have to do the same on 'her side' of the garden behind the house.... but it's not a competition. I am just looking forward to getting the BBQ out and enjoying the summer!

So, I very successful day in the garden and I am sure all the plants are happy with their new bed of manure and clear sunlight.

I am now [very] sore and a little sun burnt. But very happy with my efforts!
